Programma

04-02-2025
12:30 - 13:30 uur Registration with lunch
13:30 - 13:40 uur Opening by Andre van Linden and Sander van Loon
13:40 - 14:15 uur Performances&Carbon Footprint impact of bio based binders in Coating applications (N.Florent, Ecoat)
There is a growing demand for raw materials enabling to reduce the impact on CO2 emissions and enabling to develop more sustainable coatings. Considering the wide number of raw materials used in coatings, the polymer is one of, or even, the most critical one. Through the presentation we will see how Ecoat binders can be used alone or in blend to grow the bio based content and reduce the CO2 emissions without compromising the performances. 3 different applications will be reviewed starting with architectural coatings then moving to metal coatings and finishing with wood coatings. In all cases the impact of Ecoat binder will be evaluated in coating formulations, characterized physically for the most critical performances, compared with conventional solutions and translated into CO2 reduction via Life Cycle Analysis.
14:15 - 14:45 uur Polycarbodiimides – introducing the new ‘Hyperfunctional’ polycarbodiimide (A. Derksen, Stahl)
Crosslinking is widely practiced to improve the performance of coatings, including wear, abrasion and chemical resistances. Stahl successfully examined the performance of polycarbodiimides as a safe and sustainable crosslinker. A new ‘Hyperfunctional’ polycarbodiimide is introduced, which provides superior performance compared to reference polycarbodiimide crosslinkers.
14:45 - 15:15 uur Break
15:15 - 15:45 uur Low viscous biobased polyisocyanates (E. Durgut, Covestro)
Sustainability is increasingly influencing the product and purchasing decisions of coatings customers, brand owners, and consumers. In response, Covestro has been developing partly bio-based polyisocyanates for several years. But so far, these have had limited use in solvent-free or very high-solids applications.
Now, we have reached a new milestone on this journey with Desmodur® CQ ultra N 7500 and Desmodur® CQ ultra N 7600. These low-viscosity, solvent-free aliphatic polyurethane crosslinkers have 70% renewable carbon content and hazard assessments for acute inhalation toxicity is based on experimental studies for the components which showed outstanding results. They can be used in construction, automotive, and several other applications without viscosity issues.
15:50 - 16:25 uur Advancing Light-Triggered Paint Drying in Pigmented Alkyd Paints (J.Tolboom, UvA)
Alkyd paints contain polyester oligomers with bio-based unsaturated fatty acid side chains that can be crosslinked, making them a sustainable coating option. These paints are typically dried using metal salts. This research focuses on developing novel light-activated iron catalysts for alkyd paint curing that are more photolabile and absorb red light instead of blue. The shift to red light enables deeper light penetration, allowing dark pigmented paints to dry effectively using light—a capability not previously achievable. Additionally, the research explores methods to reactivate iron catalysts in paint to prevent deactivation, thereby reducing color changes and enhancing curing performance.
16:25 - 17:00 uur VAE in interior and exterior paints / plasters (N. Göppert, Wacker)
The general chemistry, the advantages of VAE (including TiO2 saving) and an product overview for interior and exterior applications will be presented.
17:00 - 17:30 uur Closure with appetizers and drinks
