Programma

23-01-2024
12:30 - 13:30 uur Reception and registration with lunch
13:30 - 13:35 uur Opening by Sander van Loon
13:45 - 14:15 uur SMA based dispersants - Imane Ahkim, Aurorium
During this presentation, the chemistry and properties of Styrene Maleic Anhydride (SMA) will be explained. SMA has been used as a dispersant for decades, but how can we link the composition to the dispersant performance? We will explore a wide range of possibilities with SMA, discussing several studies based on colorant performance, wet scrub resistance, and stain resistance.
14:15 - 14:45 uur Towards a self-driving formulations lab - Dr. ir. Peter A. Korevaar, Radboud University Nijmegen
The Big Chemistry consortium has been awarded 97M Euro from the Netherlands Growth Fund to set up a self-driving lab to accelerate discoveries in chemistry. Combining AI and high throughput experiments, we aim to change formulation science. Our first aims are to use AI to predict molecular properties such as solubility, CMC, surface tension and viscosity, not only of pure compounds but also of mixtures. Trained foundation models can then be used by various industries to accelerate research and product development. In this presentation, I will introduce the Big Chemistry consortium and discuss a number of initial use cases that serves as examples for future, larger projects.
14:45 - 15:15 uur Break
15:15 - 16:00 uur Computational chemistry and AI to accelerate new additive development - Hilbert Esselbrugge, Ashland
There has been explosive growth in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technology for innovation and product development. As an early adopter of machine learning and molecular simulation, Ashland has encouraged the use of digital technology to accelerate innovation. Molecular simulation, AI/machine learning, and predictive modeling are used to guide commercialization of new products with superior properties. Physical chemical based molecular models are used to simulate molecular structure, dynamics, and interactions giving us insight into the chemical behavior that drives critical-to-function properties. AI models uncover hidden structure-property relationships and optimize chemical processes and properties enabling informed decision making and product innovation. Digital innovation technology for rational design and development of superior coating ingredients will be presented, illustrated with examples of recently commercialized new products.
16:00 - 16:30 uur Innovating in a Digital Age - Insights into Digital Transformation at BASF - Irene Gorman, BASF
The competitive landscape is evolving at an unprecedented pace; new products or ideas now occurring within days or even hours, rather than months or years. To stay competitive in this dynamic environment, companies must embrace available digitalization technologies and prioritize the generation of high-quality data, as data is the new gold. However, the challenge lies in liberating data from silos and ensuring its quality and compliance with FAIR principles. Historically, researchers in the coating industry have focused on generating data for individual products or immediate problem-solving within their working groups, rather than generating data that can span projects, time, and technologies, and support the entire organization. In this presentation, we will showcase how digital lab assistants, machine learning, and process automation are shaping product development in the coating industry, facilitating even greater innovation in collaboration with our valued customers.
16:30 - 17:00 uur Company and project pitches
Companies involved in modelling will present in 10 min what they can offer; SCM and Probaligence. Also an interesting project, SusuCoats, in which you can collaborate will be presented.
17:00 - 17:30 uur Closure with appetizers and drinks
