Programma

25-11-2025
12:30 - 13:30 uur Registration with lunch
13:30 - 14:10 uur Sustainable options for Styren-Acrylic binders
- Tijs Nabuurs (Covestro)
Improving sustainability in coatings is complex and involves health, climate, waste, and social factors. The main climate goal is reducing greenhouse gas emissions, especially CO₂. Various approaches exist to lower the product carbon footprint (PCF) of polymer binders, including biobased, recycled, and mass-balanced raw materials, as well as biopolymer–synthetic polymer combinations. Many sustainable options are already commercially available, while others are emerging and expected to reach the market within the next five to ten years.
14:10 - 14:50 uur Start, scale, and strengthen your sustainability transition
- Tom Hooijer (Krahn)
The sustainability transition in the coatings and inks industry is accelerating, and companies that wait risk falling behind. True progress requires more than technical fixes — sustainability must be embedded in the company’s strategy and culture. Early investment in knowledge and employee engagement is key. Tools like LCA and EPDs help identify environmental impacts and guide smarter product development. The main message: start early, because early action creates a competitive advantage.
14:50 - 15:15 uur Break
15:15 - 15:55 uur A Novel Solution for Wood Protection: Expanding Wood’s Role in Construction
- Gerbran Daamen (Lingo Ferox)
Wood claddings for housing are facing growth in the EU for the coming decades, due to its sustainable nature, low carbon footprint and favourable economics compared to cement bonded materials. To provide coating manufacturers with a new avenue for enhancing the long-term and improved protection of exterior wood and extending maintenance cycles, Ligno Ferox has developed OxyMul 50 AQ-40.
Through innovative emulsion technology, Ligno Ferox has successfully emulsified a solvent-borne medium oil alkyd resin in water. This enables waterborne coatings to achieve performance levels comparable to traditional solvent-based paints.
15:55 - 16:35 uur Brush-up on binder technologies – waterborne acrylics for a sustainable future
- Bas Lohmeijer (BASF)
BASF is fully committed to our customers in the architectural coatings industry. As a supplier of binders into this market our portfolio includes incorporating biogenic and recycled content, both segregated and/or via mass balance approaches. In this latter case no reformulation is needed, neither at the binder supplier nor at the customer. In the former case the use of new raw materials (e.g. 14C-containing monomers) requires a few more steps to achieve or surpass the performance level of existing fossil alternatives. In particular in multiphase products, reworking and fine-tuning of the individual phase’s hardness and hydrophilic/hydrophobic balance(s) are a must. Simple theoretical considerations combined with synthetic diligence and quick feedback loops enables products that include affordable sustainability without compromising performance.
16:35 - 17:30 uur Closure with appetizers and drinks
